Vibe Johansson designs geometric garments interacting seamlessly with our anatomy. Defiant yet controlled, each piece underlines a desire for effeminate expressions and lasting elegant composure. She researches the female silhouette, challenging simplicity through innovation. Muted lines, colors and fabrics are subjected to the premises of functionality, a functionality expressed here in the versatility of wardrobe essentials. Danish born Vibe Johansson studied Fashion Design at Polimoda Fashion Institute in Florence, Italy, followed by Design Technology in Copenhagen, Denmark. Vibe Johansson presented her first official women’s collection in the fall of 2008. In 2010 Vibe Johansson was nominated to the Max Factor New Talent Award. Today the brand is available in selected stores worldwide, mainly in Europe, the States and Asia. What motivated you to join NDA? It was, among other things, NDA’s focus on sustainable fashion. In my own production I focus a lot on sustainability by creating garment that is multifunctional, for example items that can be turned around – such as tunics you can wear upside down. I design with duality in mind – depending on the styling. It’s everyday wear which can be worn as evening wear.
By creating something that is a bit longer lasting, and not thinking […]
STORM & MARIE is a fashion brand established in Copenhagen in 2010. The Danish brand is the result of a shared vision of the two who form a couple both professionally and privately. Named after their twins, STORM & MARIE is a passionate endeavor for Signe Elisabeth Vedel and Kim Vedel Hansen. The philosophy behind the brand is that while every collection forms a concept, each piece can still be worn separately and effortlessly be mixed in different ways to create an individual style. A focus on high quality and fit are the core of the 4 yearly STORM & MARIE collections. STORM & MARIE is reflective of their love for the mélange and vintage fashion and the use of references from literature, art and contemporary music. What motivated you to become a part of NDA? NDA is an exciting initiative. STORM & MARIE is part of the fashion industry and as a company we make a living out of producing and selling clothes.
But even though we do so – and actually exactly because of that – we believe that it is important to commit to issues of social responsibility and sustainability and acknowledge that the fashion industry has a […]
Sophia Lee created by designer Sofie Nørregaard is a Copenhagen-based fashion line for women. Sofie has created a personal look with lots of character – feminine shades, innovative cuts and delicate details is a guarantee. The style is influenced by Nordic individuality and aesthetics. Furthermore, new styles from Sophia Lee are permeated of well-chosen color, a combination that successfully brings the beautiful collections a new dimension. The product line includes everything from a large selection of clothing for a variety of accessories and outdoor clothing. Sofie Nørregaard sells her designs in the shop Fünf on Elmegade in Nørrebro where you can also buy the three Danish brands FROKS, Tolsing and Em Fau. All four brand owners design and sew their clothes in the back of the shop.
Nümph is the result of 8 women’s dream to create a brand from scratch, which is different and stronger simply because nümph sums up the experiences and creativity of all the designers: cutting edge, twisted, feminine and rough, vulnerable and strong. According to the designers nümph is indeed their dream come true, they are free to design their ideal type of clothes and there are no limitations. Experimenting with shapes, details and print is the sum of their individual experiences. Nümph create the clothes for their own reflection of the tough, beautiful and independent girl who loves to draw attention to herself by means of her own personal styles. The will and the desire to create those favorite and indispensable items that last time and again is driven by Nümph’s passion. What motivated nümph to become a part of NDA? NDA has a profile and a philosophy which correspond the core values in our company and the individual brand profiles. We have on earlier occasions participated in similar projects which match our identity and what we stand for. Are you inspired by Scandinavian culture and trends in your designs? Yes, with an international twist. What else inspires you? Art, […]
Iben Birch Bech is a passionate textile and product designer. She studied textile design at The Royal Academy of Architecture, Design and Conservation (KADK) & print design at Rhode Island school of design (RISD) in the US. She got her master in product design and textiles in 2008. In her projects Iben combines her knowledge of different textile handcraft techniques with form and thereby creates tactile and innovative products. Iben’s work shows the imprint of her long lasting love for nature and especially flowers and plants. Today Iben combines design and decoration in different contexts and aspects. Present she is mainly freelancing print and product designs, graphic design and interior decor for several clients. Privatly Iben works on her own projects designing jewelry, beautiful paper lamps and visual art. Keywords in her work are color, edge and imagination. What motivated you to join NDA? There is no excuse to stop thinking about those who are worse off than one self.
Rather, I applaud the values and vision of NDA which is why I chose to partake.
Adding to that, I’ve never taken the ‘consume and discard’-culture to heart and I’ve personally been a keen second-hand shopper, and contributor, since my teenage years. […]
Not only is the name Henrik Vibskov associated with a fashion label but also a multitude of twisted yet tantalising universes created in relation to each collection. “The Transparent Tongue“, “The Spaghetti Handjob“ and “The Shrink Wrap Spectacular“ are just a few titles of shows Henrik Vibskov has produced lately, each title referring to a different but equally mesmerizing world and set of logic. As a fashion designer Henrik Vibskov has produced over 25 mens (and later also women’s) collections since he graduated from Central St. Martins in 2001, and as a member of the Chambre Syndicale de la Mode Masculine he is currently the only Scandinavian designer on the official show schedule of the Paris Mens Fashion Week, which he has been since January 2003. The collections are sold through thoroughly selected shops across the globe and artist and musicians like M.I.A., Björk, Artic Monkeys, Sigur Ros, Franz Ferdinand, Lou Reed, LCD Soundsystem and Devendra Banhart have been spotted in Henrik Vibskov’s designs. What motivated you to join NDA? We’re currently working towards a higher degree of sustainability which is challenging when you’re a small, creative design company in a big world.
We became interested in the project because […]
Eva & Claudi is a brand that exists for strong-willed women with an aesthetic sense who deal with the nature of art, beauty, and taste. The designers Eva Ingemar and Pia Claudi met each other at the Design School Kolding, and decided to combine their love for color, knitting and patterns into a joint brand shortly after receiving their degrees. Today the brand is well known for its quality, exclusive materials and a colorful design that challenges and excites the senses. Their goal is to dress women in a way that enhances their personal attractiveness – helping them to influence others. They cover all details related to the manufacturing – ranging from custom-made buttons and ribbons to their own print, which is a big part of Eva & Claudi’s fingerprints. Shops from Japan to USA sell the products and in Europe you can find Eva & Claudi in more than 400 high-end shops. In 2014 the designers opened the doors to their first Flagship store in Denmark, located in Jutland. What is your motivation for joining NDA? Overproduction is a problem that’s very hard to avoid. It feels meaningless to destroy the clothes so we-re always sought other options. NDA […]
Copenhagen Fashion Week is just around the corner and again this year CFW will have a focus on sustainability. Therefore, we want to dedicate seven days to our designers, which we are very grateful to cooperate with. By teaming up with us the designers get the possibility to use their unsold garments for a good cause and in a sustainable way. It is their surplus stock and collections that are to be sold in the not-for-profit shop NORDIK in Cape Town, that represent Nordic design, sustainability and quality. All profit is used to help young mothers and children in South Africa to get an education and break the bad circle of unemployment and poverty. Each day starting January 26 we present one of our seven designers, tell their stories, inform about their brands and their reasons for supporting NDA. It is in NDA’s interest to highlight and contribute to ensure that sustainability and a social responsibility continues to be a core value in Nordic design. We require that our partners focus on the development of Corporate Social Responsibility policy, which guarantees that they constantly work to integrate social and environmental concerns in their business operations. ENJOY!
Yesterday we held our annual general meeting and we had an exciting talk about the past, the present, and the future of Nordic Designers Aid.
Today we celebrate Human Rights Day here in NDA. What about you? The UN General Assembly proclaimed 10 December as Human Rights Day in 1950, to bring to the attention ‘of the people of the world’ the Universal Declaration of Human Rights as the common standard of achievement for all peoples and all nations. This year’s slogan, Human Rights 365, includes the idea that every day is Human Rights Day and that each one of us, at all times is entitled to the full range of human rights and that human rights bind us together as a global community with the same ideals and values. Remember you can always be a part of NDA’s daily effort to give teenage mothers in South Africa an opportunity to get an education and to give them and their children the support they need. Go to http://nordicdesignersaid.com/hvad-du-kan-goere/bliv-medlem/ and become a most appreciated member of NDA by donating 100 DKK a year and thereby support South African teenage mothers and their children to enjoy every day as a human rights day!
NDA joined the concluding ’Debate Caravan’ about Danish Development Aid in the DR City last Tuesday. The ’Debate Caravan’ has been travelling through 10 Danish cities in the last two months, discussing Danish Development Aid. This has happened around the same time as the government has announced that it might cut down on the Danish Development Aid by 2.5 billion DKK. 65% of the Danish population believe that it’s a good idea to help people living in poverty – but 70% of those people feel that they know too little about what happens when the money actually reach their destination. At the ‘Debate Caravan’ NGO’s and institutions working in development countries worked hard to clarify this and to advocate against the cut down of funds. Several politicians and NGO’s were taking part in the debate – where an important subject of the evening was basic human rights. The fight for improved human rights is an important one in NDA’s own work to create social progress, a stable everyday life and a better future for girls and teenage mothers in South Africa. We believe in the right to education, a woman’s right to be free from violence and sexual abuse and […]
