Why did we change our name?
An important reason why we’ve changed our name is a decision to not work within an HIV and AIDS context alone. The social and physical consequences of HIV and AIDS are still inescapable and all-pervading issues in the areas where we work. But it’s not a context within which we wish to work exclusively. Therefore, in consultation with our South African partners, we have chosen to focus on gender equality and young mothers’ education and future as well.
We believe that this is the best way to make a real difference for vulnerable children in the Western Province. The best way to help the children is by helping their families and the local community as a whole. By empowering teenagemothers we can break a cycle of poverty and inequality, where abuse and lack of education and health care seems to be a part of everyday life.
